What is Midnight Mansion 1.x? To register (tested working in v1.0.3 thru 1.0.9 and not working in v1.1.8 & higher) you may need to erase a hidden file in your Mac OS user Preferences folder. If you haven't tried and failed to register, then you won't need to go there, but if the hidden file named "MM Data" exists in Preferences then you must erase it. You can erase the file "Midnight Mansion Prefs" to avoid certain troubles also. Next, set the system time+date to May 1 2006. Launch Midnight Mansion v1.0.9 and input this: Name> Richard P. May The time+date can then be restored to current. For people interested how to play in OS 9, see here. OS9 play requires CarbonLib v1.6 or higher and you must always be working around some bugs. To start with, most higher versions of MM declare in OS9 File Info themselves to be always v1.0.4 by mistake. I used OSX hdiutil to directly convert the original MM v1.x.x dmg file to an OS9-friendly .img file and then compressed the img in StuffIt v5.5 format. Various text files and web links found in the image need converting or creator+type codes just to open them. There are three bugs I found when running any version of Midnight Mansion in OS9 : 1. Millions of colors must be used. Under thousands of colors in OS9, when combined with certain other conditions, the status bar at the top of the game screen eventually won't be drawn or updated. 2. Use OS9 File Info to increase the amount of Memory dedicated to running the game, maybe at 60000 KB. The default amount of memory works at first, but crashes (with a competent message) later in the game. 3. Gameplay will slow down, and pulsate annoyingly between slow and extra-slow, if when in OS9 it is run in a window or has been Disturbed by a window. Even when played in full screen mode, loading and saving games have a dialog box which causes this error. And pressing cmd+tab and even when having the OS popup with an "indexing..." message at 12:00 am all cause this error. One solution to regain full speed is to "Suspend" the game you are playing, Quit, relaunch, then (Open) "Resume" the game you suspended. Download Midnight Mansion 1.x for Mac
