What is Mac OS X 10.5.1 (2Z691-6178-A) (DVD DL)?

Mac OS X v10.5 codename “Leopard” is the sixth version of Apple’s Operating System Mac OS X for Macintosh computers (desktop, laptop and servers alike). It was announced on June 6^th of 2005 at the WWDC’05 and it was launched on October 26^th of 2007. Leopard is available in two editions a personal or desktop version and a server edition known as Mac OS X Server.

According to Apple, Leopard contains more than 300 changes and upgrades over its predecessor 10.4 Tiger, these upgrades include the applications embedded in the operating system and in the development tools. Leopard offers a notably enhanced desktop, with a completely redesigned Dock, Stacks and a translucent menu bar, it also contains an updated Finder that has the Cover Flow view just like the one that iTunes offers. Other notable characteristics are the support for 64 bit applications, the Time Machine backup utility, the ability to search in other machines via Spotlight, and the inclusion of Front Row and Photo Booth, apps that were only available in certain Macs.

It was the last version of Mac OS X that supported natively the PowerPC architecture.

• Intel or PowerPC G5 or G4 processor (the speed of the G4 family has to be at least 867Mhz)
• DVD optic unit
• At least 512 MB of RAM or better for Intel processors, and 256 or better for PowerPC processors
• 9 GB of Hard Disk Space available
• ROM EFI or Open Firmware Motherboard

Leopard was not launched in separate versions for each type of processor, but it was released as a universal version that supports PowerPC and Intel Processors. Leopard does not support the G4 slower processors and none of the G3 PowerPC Family is supported.
