What is Command and Conquer: Generals? Command & Conquer: Generals is a real-time strategy (RTS) game developed by EA Pacific and published by Electronic Arts, first released in 2003. The game is part of the larger Command & Conquer series, known for its strategic, base-building gameplay and faction-based combat. In Generals, players control one of three military factions—the United States, China, or the Global Liberation Army (GLA)—each with unique units, technologies, and play styles. The game involves gathering resources, building bases, and commanding armies to defeat opponents in a variety of missions or multiplayer battles. In the context of macOS, Command & Conquer: Generals was made available through a version ported for Mac by Aspyr, a company known for adapting Windows games to macOS. This port allowed Mac users to play the game natively, but over time, compatibility issues emerged due to macOS updates. For example, Apple’s transition from 32-bit to 64-bit applications in macOS Catalina (10.15) rendered older versions of the game unplayable on newer macOS versions without specific workarounds.
